Now that I'm a Mom:

1. I wear house shoes on a daily basis.
2. I forget people's names...names I should know...like my husband's aunt. (I'm totally going to have to out myself later and call Joseph and ask, "What is your aunt's name so we can send her a Christmas card?")
3. I talk a lot about poop.
4. I buy the brands I have a coupon for and spend time shopping around for the absolute best deal.
5. I initiate conversations with other mothers whom I've never met.
6. I am amazed at how expressive a baby can be without using words.
7. I am still a little bit intimidated by other people's kids, especially older kids.
8. I am way more excited about toys than I probably should be...and I spend a lot of time researching which toys are safe and offer some developmental goodness.
9. I am very interested in becoming a better cook so that I can provide my daughter with good, healthy meals that are minus so much processed foods.
10. I am (albeit slowly) becoming more domestic in all realms of my life despite the fact that I went to college for 8 years and have a doctorate degree. Funny how baby changes everything.
11. Oh, and I have bigger feet.

Alex is thankful. And so am I.

My family gathered at my parents' house for Thanksgiving. Anna had a big time playing with her cousin Alex, who is five years old.

Alex [to my mother]: "Is that your baby?"

My mother: "No, Anna is Shannon's baby."

Alex [to me]: "Is that your baby?"

Me: "Yes."

Alex: "I like it."

I like "it," too, Alex. In fact, I don't think I've ever been so thankful.

Healthy, beautiful daughter. Wonderful husband. Great family and friends. Cozy home on a hill. Crazy dogs. I am very, very thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Note to self

The generic bottle of Tylenol PM is not clearly marked with the PM. Remember that in the future so you won't accidentally take it again and have to wonder why the colors of the world around you are swirling.

Is it nap time yet????

Another First

Anna found her feet! Her friends Sydney and Mia have been playing with their feet for the last few months (or so it seems to me), so in the last few weeks I started pointing out those things at the end of Anna's legs to her. (In Anna's defense, both Sydney and Mia are a couple of months older than her.)

I was beginning to think that Anna was going to skip the finding of the feet trick...especially after my mom told me that she couldn't remember me ever finding mine. Mom's exact words were, "I just don't remember you being that flexible." Heh. That trend continued until this day, and I was so afraid that Anna had inherited my stiff tendons and ligaments. Well...Anna's flexibility must come from her daddy because after her bath tonight, I put Anna in her pj's (her first pair of big girl pj's...so cute!) and lo and behold, when I laid her down, she pulled her feet right up to her hands. She even did it again after her daddy came home from work. Show off!

Here comes Santa...

Here's one of the pictures that I took for our Christmas cards this year. My friend Jenny and I took about 348 shots to get 4 really, really cute ones. Anna was such a good sport and tolerated her mama's homemade photography studio quite well. I have a feeling that will not be the case when Anna gets a little older. Gotta love the immobile stage.

Anna's Canine Friends

As expected, Maverick (the red dog) runs from Anna while Daisy (the blonde dog) tries to lick her feet. Though Joseph wanted his dog (Maverick) in the Christmas pictures for our Christmas cards, it was not to be. Daisy (my dog) wanted in the action, and Maverick wanted to be where ever Anna wasn't.

Funny Girl!

Anna's tongue is the hot toy this season!

Four Month Stats

Weight: 13 lbs., 0.2 oz. (23%)

Head circumference: 16" (29%)

Length: 24 1/4 in. (35%)

Four Months Old

Oh my little Anna Banana! You turned four months old yesterday. Such a big girl already!

As I type this, you are sacked out in your swing, having just endured your four month check-up and shots. You were so good at the doctor's office...you just cried right after the needle stick and calmed down seconds later and went fast to sleep as your daddy read "Guess How Much I Love You." Mama did better this round, too, and didn't even cry when the nurses stuck you with those needles.

You are a smiley kiddo and so very talkative. I think you got your smiles from your daddy and your love of language from me. The mornings are my favorite time with you because you are rested and playful and cuddly. Bath time ranks up there for the best time of the day, too, though. You love baths! The past few times I have bathed you I put you in mama's big tub with your foam bear. You love to sprawl out on him and kick in the water. The very sound of the bath coming on calms you down (as does the sound of the kitchen water coming on when you think you are about to be fed). You also love to watch football with your daddy, but Dr. Stewart told us today that we can't let you do that anymore lest you be ADD when you get older. We can't have that, so we are going to let you watch television less and read more books. Maybe Santa will bring you some new books for Christmas!!!

Speaking of which - the Holidays are quickly approaching. We are going to Nana and Big Pop's for Thanksgiving. Bebe and Papa Joe will be there, too. Mama's cousins and aunts and uncles will be there to entertain you as well. It will be a fun time for all. And then in no time your first Christmas will be here! Since you can't write (or speak), I'll write Santa and tell him what you want for Christmas.

I wish I was a better writer so that I could convey on this blog exactly how much fun you are. You and your daddy are my world, kiddo. Each day with you is perfect.

Lots of love,
Mama

Anna missed the hook!

For her first Halloween, Anna dressed up as a goldfish. She was unbelievably happy in her little costume and tolerated her mama and daddy carting her all over town to trick or treat at friends' houses. The costume was darling - but sort of a pain because Anna couldn't be buckled in the carseat with it on. At each stop we had to put her outfit on her and then take it off when we were ready to go. As a result we only made it to Melissa and Brad's, Jill and David's, and Emily and Brad's. Aunt Amy came over before we left on our jaunt to check out the little fish.

It was a wonderful, wonderful night...and I'd write more but it is time for Miss Anna to eat.

Happy Fall!
